  • The California State Lands Commission (SLC) has issued a letter, dated 24 July 2017 (copy attached) approving the use of USCG Type Approved Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) and USCG accepted Alternate Management Systems (AMS) to manage ballast water prior to discharge in California waters.
  • The list of USCG Type Approved Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) and USCG accepted Alternate Management Systems (AMS) is included in the attached letter. The letter also contains “Ballast Water Treatment Technology Annual Reporting Form” and the “Ballast Water Treatment Supplemental Reporting Form” as attachments.
  • Vessels intending to discharge treated ballast in California waters with either a USCG Type Approved BWMS or a USCG accepted AMS are required to fill out the “Ballast Water Treatment Technology Annual Reporting Form” and the “Ballast Water Treatment Supplemental Reporting Form”.
  • Additionally, vessels using either a USCG Type Approved BWMS or a USCG accepted AMS in California waters are required to report the ballast water management system on the Ballast Water Management Report.
  • Ship owners/ operators and masters are advised to be guided by above.
