Subject: DGS Maritime Security Advisory to ships transiting Gulf of Aden (GoA).

  • Security in the Gulf of Aden and Somalia basin has been of concern to the maritime industry since last decade.
  • In the view of recent piracy incident information, of Indian Mechanized Sailing Vessel (MSV) in Somalia coast region; shared by Korean Naval ship, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and International Maritime Bureau (IMB), the DG shipping India has issued a Maritime Security Advisory to ships transiting Gulf of Aden (GoA) through ISPS circular no. NT/ISPS/01/2017 (copy attached).
  • Concerning the fact that, it is not possible to track and monitor MSVs through Long Range Information and Tracking (LRIT), to avoid such incidents; the Administration has advised all sailing vessel association not to transit Gulf of Aden.
  • Administration has informed all the owners, operators and masters of all Indian ships to avoid operations of their vessels in these waters and keep a safe distance of at least more than 200 nautical miles from the coast.
  • Ship owners/ operators and masters are advised to be guided by above.
