  • Kidde fire protection has issued a safety bulletin requiring the hardware replacement of specific Kidde Chemical Agent cylinder-valve assemblies used in fire extinguishing systems for marine applications.
  • The Affected cylinder valves are from NOVEC 1230 and HFC227 fire extinguishing systems.
  • Kidde chemical agent cylinder has two-inch valve assembly which contains four retainer screws in its piston design. On the affected cylinders it is found that some valves with one or more of these retainer screws not tightened to the required torque specification and may have escaped production and inspection process before shipping.
  • The loss of any of the screw from their set position will results into pressure equilibrium between cylinder and top chamber of the valve. In case of fire event when valve gets activated, the equilibrium causes the valve operation and prevents the agent from being discharge into affected space
  • The affected products are with following valve markings and manufacture dates:
  1. 45-150000-001 2" Valve NOVEC - PI Mark- Jan 16, 2015 to December 31, 2016
  2. 90-150000-X0X 2" Valve HFC227 - PI Mark - Jan 16, 2015 to December 31, 2016

Complete detail list of affected part number is given in the attached circular.

  • In view of above, to completely eliminate the possibility of non-operation of any installed system Kidde Fire Protection has decided to replace these cylinder-valve assemblies that were shipped during above mentioned period for marine applications.
  • Owners and operators of vessels fitted with any Kidde fire protection chemical agent fire extinguishing system are required to check with manufacturer by emailing at recall@kiddeuk.co.uk . Required actions and procedures for replacement of the assemblies are given in the attached bulletin.
  • Ship owners/ operators and masters are advised to be guided by above.
