1. The Maritime Safety Committee, at its 103rd session approved Circular No. MSC.1/Circ. 1601/Rev.1 providing revised industry counter piracy guidance.

2. The guidance is intended to assist companies and seafarers to further mitigate maritime security threats, and help increase the security of world trade.

3. The Circular provides counter piracy guidance on following;

a) Global Counter Piracy Guidance for companies, masters and seafarers.

a. Revised Best Management Practices (BMP5).

b. Protection against piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea region.

4. Ship owners/ managers and masters are advised to take note of the revised guidance provided in the attached MSC.1/Circ. 1601/Rev.1 and act accordingly.
